Chicago, IL (Lincoln Park)/If you knew you would die in a month, what kinds of things would you do?

Answer: All the things that I haven't been doing. That's what I would do.

First, I'm overweight. Now, when I see something that is bad for me, I try to not to eat it, but if I knew I was going to die, whatever I want to eat, I would. I won't do things that are bad, but it's a dangerous question, eh? What if you ask someone bad that question? I'm not a bad person. I would...just the things that I haven't done, like the example of food. I'm not gonna kill nobody. Maybe I'll die with a piece of chicken right here [motions to left hand] and a piece of ham right here [motions to right hand.] I'm going to die happy.

Question: Where do you think people come from?

  2. In Los Angeles, there is an on-going event, sponsored by a Buddhist organization, called something like My Last Year. It's focused on meetings and meditations with the presumption that you are living your last year, last birthday, last Christmas, last (fill in the blank), with the intention of increasing one's "be here now" abilities.

  3. I literally stumbled upon the junkyard off a main street in Lincoln Park. I had gotten off the Metra and was walking to meet a friend when I looked to my right and saw that enormous stack of cars, so I took a right to explore.

@Liz: Hi Liz! It's good to hear from you! It's so exciting and encouraging to hear feedback and dialogue from people who I interviewed in this project. The event sounds interesting, but I would have a hard time living and thinking like that. The ultimate challenge I think is to fully live in each moment, despite knowing that it probably won't be your last. To me, that is what it means to fully 'be here now,' to live joyfully and abundantly in each moment not because of the imposed fear that it may be your last, but simply because.
